Is it the object or its image that is born first? With Proteus Prosthesis, Francesco Agnelli generates multiple representations of one and the same form in an installation combining sculpture and silkscreen printing. As if echoing the words of philosopher Jean Baudrillard, according to whom hyper-real life, made up of simulacra, is ‘more real than real life’, Agnelli seeks to create virtual replicas that are more ‘real’ than their original model. He does so by using, among other things, the codes of scientific imagery. His ‘prostheses’ are the result of a complex system, at once immaterial and artisanal, which allows us to question once again the relation between nature and its representation.
