Restoration of The Apostle’s Head (Museum of Fine Arts of Tournai) painted on canvas in the seventeenth century. During a previous restoration, the painting was glued to a wooden panel. The joints between the boards opened up, tearing the canvas. The canvas had to be carefully separated from the panel so that the edges of the tears could be brought together and glued. The weakened canvas was lined with a new cloth on the reverse side so that it could be stretched again on a frame. On the side of the paint layer, a thick varnish was removed, and the gaps were then filled and retouched.
